I have 2 LG DVD drives one is a writer both of which are not working. Error "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" Does anyone else have this problem or are these devices working for you?

LG DVD Drives
I have tried an LG GSA-4166B, a Sony DRU-720a and a Sony DRU 820a, and all yield the exact same results you describe.
Based on other posts I: 1) removerd an older DVD-ROM (Sony 1621) to see if Vista would recognize the newer ones by themselves. 2) uninstalled the drives from device manager and restarted to see if Vista would recognize them then.
Always at start-up it sees the drives, tries to install them, and reports that it failed.

Keith, excellent tip. I forgot the nightmare that anything Roxio causes with cdroms. <G> I wish these forums could create stickies so hardware/applications that work and don't work or any workarounds could be posted.
Kieth that worked perfectly! Thanks for the assistance.

Hi Keith
Sorry for the Hassle
But I have the same problem with my LG GSA-4166B DVD WRITER WITH LIGHTSCRIBE but I have followed the steps to do with upperfilters and lowerfilters but still no luck but when I get to the point about typing in SAVEDKEY and click save it says to click on REG_MULTI_SZ I cant find it to get to the upperfilters so I had to search for it and then delete the upperfilters and lowerfilters and then rebooted but still no dvd drive.
can you help in any way

I cannot get my PC to install Vista because of this error: In the Collecting Information part of the installation, it says that it needs a driver for my DVD drive, and won't let me continue until I give it one...LG doesn't have drivers. GDR-8164B DVD Drive
Help?
